Starting Early

With details of how to set-up and costs of items we offer being pulled from the cobwebs of my mind and the back of my car loaded, I headed out to my first "volunteer" event for the season.   It was an indoor Farmers Market and this year I was doing it solo.

Leaving early, I actually told myself to take my time in case of icy road conditions caused by the low 20's overnight.  When on the straightaway, I spotted it.  There, crossing the snow-covered open field it walked at a steady and purposeful gait  Hoping I would get a good look at the creature if it continued on it's path, I immediately pulled over on the opposite side of the road and waited.

Shortly after I'd twisted to turn around while in the driver's seat, there it was at the edge of empty road.
Crossing the road at it's lumbering pace, a very handsome bobcat then disappeared into the Japanese Barberry that bordered the field across from where it came.  (The pic is not the best but, it was pretty large.)

It vanished, I pulled out and continued driving to my destination.  Greeted by four Boy Scouts who were helping vendors unload, I was elated because that meant I did't have to carry in the folding table, the signage, nor the heavy box of brochures and maps.

I was set up in no time and before I knew it, the doors were open.  Now I don't know if it was that I worked alone or that they had a much larger crowd than previous years, but before I knew it, it was time to pack up!  The day was not only a success but also rather pleasant in that a prospective volunteer I had talked to earlier, came by as I was packing up and offered to help me carry everything to my car.  I couldn't pass up his offer.

Shaking his hand while thanking him, I said, "It was nice to meet you, Mike.  For what it's worth, when I give your name to Boss, I'l tell him you helped me carry everything."  Smiling he said, "Yes, tell him it was my first official task as a Volunteer, JP."

just seeing, saying, and sharing...

I've seen a lot of things cross the road in front of me but never a bobcat.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, you make friends wherever you go. And this time you even recruited one.
