because...
The afternoon after all the dead critters had vanished, I spotted something near the cluster of Hydrangeas.
It slept nearly all afternoon until the eclipse happened. And then, when the temperature dropped, and the Moon blocked the sun, it got up and headed toward the feeders.
Convinced that this was our resident killer, I tried to get near it, but it wanted no part of that.
Walking purposefully and casually across the yard, as it got closer to the feeders, the birds now silent because of the eclipse remained hidden.
(While the Pres was outside "watching" the eclipse through his welder's mask, I "listened to the eclipse," as the critters' silence was very noticeable...:)
Anyway, the very healthy looking stray hung around for two days and then, was no where to be found by Wednesday morning. However that afternoon, hearing the thick brush moving right before dusk that afternoon, I thought it had returned. I was wrong.
While sitting on the deck, I was totally taken off guard when this beautiful critter appeared from the thick, overgrown brush.
Before wandering around the "bird sanctuary," it scratched it's face on one of the trees, continually sniffing the air and ground as it wandered, marking it's territory.
just seeing, saying and sharing...

Oh, one more thing. A good friend told me that I should now wear "chaps" when I fill the feeders and wander in to watch the Eagles...LOL...silly girl!!

OMG, your suspects are both gorgeous!! Love that you had a bobcat. He's a beauty.
Hello, what a cool visitor. Seeing a bobcat would be a cool sighting to me. The eclipse is cool, but the bobcat is awesome. Just my opinion. The kitty is a cutie too. Great series of photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
Wow....that was a close encounter.
both cats are beautiful, I wonder if they are the culprits for all the dead stuff..
Wow! Awesome sighting of the bobcat. Now that pretty grey kitty does not have to take all the blame
Have a wonderful week-end!
Lovely photos of the 2 cats ~ amazing that you have a Bobcat so close ~ ^_^
(A Shutterbug Explores)
Nice pics of the cats.
Ahhh...a bobcat was causing the carnage! Wonderful post...love the shots of both cats.
Who knew that the eclipse could transform a domestic cat into a bobcat. Very cool
Love both cats! Great pictures

Hello! What a cool sighting of the Bobcat, a lovely looking cat, but was he the culprit for all the dead critters!:( I didn't notice the darkness here in Portugal, it must have been odd to hear the silence of bird song.
Great photos of both felines. You were lucky to photograph the Bobcat. They're very elusive.
Nothing short of amazing, how lucky to be able to see such a sight,
All the best, Gordon.
JP, Wow I love the bobcat photos. That has to be a little scary. It's amazing what the presence of the dogs did for keeping other critters at bay. Be safe! Sylvia D.
wow a bobcat ... now that is so so cool. not sure i ever told ya the story of seeing a cougar or puma ... i did google it once when it did happen ... to know the difference ... but there were fresh born baby sheep (lambs) and they were just precious and he or she was journeying through fields and i caught a very grainy shot ... then we noticed that their path of looking for food is so so huge. like miles and miles ... it is so cool. but can you imagine coming across him/her if you were just walking down a country lane ... i would pee my pants??! nuts!
how have you been? good i hope ... i was out commenting today ... have been super busy and just not commenting much ... not the time any more. thinking about my Texans friends. thought about you ... hope you are good ... i never remember you are Vermont, New Hampshire... nuts ... see a mind is hard to keep all those tidbits in there straight. hope you and the fam are all good. getting ready for FALL right? take care and come see me sometime ... miss ya!! big big hugs!! xxoo ( ;
Better a wild Bobcat that needs to eat, rather than a domestic cat that kills for nothing. Well done in spotting your interloper.
Your sweet domestic kitty is just darling. Wow a wild bobcat...hope the other kitty stays out of harms way. You got some neat shots of the bobcat.
The stray cat looks kept up and in good health, and that bob cat is a beauty. They both look quite mischievous. ; )
