Last week while at the Big E,** we headed to the the livestock barn as always.
Walking among the various entries and watching the well groomed cows and cattle chew their cud as they waited for their turn to be judged, I spotted (pardon the pun) this beauty.
Totally taken aback by her spots, I approached the groomer. The conversation went like this:
ME: Excuse me sir, is this a particular breed that all her spots are outlined in gray?
GROOMER: No ma'am. The hair is just cut and shaved closer to the skin to accentuate the markings.
Did you know that? I didn't.

"I did not know that..." doing my best Johnny Carson impression. Hope you are well, JP.
had no idea!
I had not heard of the Big E but it sounds like fun...we have lots of livestock and chicks etc at our state fair in NY...I do enjoy seeing them...these images reminded me of them again.
Crazy that someone would think of that.
Well, who would have thought to shave a cow for distinct colouring like this? Isn't it neat!
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday JP.
Wow, kudos to a groomer that does that on a cow. Lots of time!
I have never seen a cow groomed like that. How unique
How fascinating! Thanks for telling us that!
This cow is amazing, I have never seen anything like her! It almost looks like a map! I wonder what breed she is? I am hoping she is just a milk cow?
I learned something new today.. I wonder if the cow minds being shaved.. Cool post, thanks for sharing.. Have a happy week!
Cow art, very unique pattern on that cow. How odd they would shave the fur to accentuate the markings but also cool.
No I didn't know that, but I never did 4-H or anything like that, but I love to go to our county fair to see all the animals. Lots of fun for a city girl or suburban girl. Thank you for linking in JP.. Michelle
