Sharing His Pride

Taking me by the hand, the Pres said, "Hon, want to see my nuts?"

LOL!!  Go ahead...I did...:)

Almost pulling me at me like an impatient child, he escorted me outside and around to the side of the house.

"See, there's two on this bush and four on that one.  Let's hope the squirrels don't get them before they ripen."

Standing there listening to him, I took a few pix because I have never seen such cute....

"nuts."

Although we cannot understand why the largest Hazelnut has absolutely no nuts on it and the smaller ones do.

Any nut growers out there?

Feedback is always appreciated at this household...especially when it comes to nut trees!

  1. Could it be something to do with pollination, or perhaps lack of it, with the larger tree. I know nothing about hazel nuts so can't help you but was delighted to see those tiny nuts the Pres is so proud of.

  2. Maybe they have male and female trees? That is the case with our holly bushes.

  3. One of the best crops of hazelnuts I ever found was in a hedge alongside a massive electricity substation. (Not sure if you have them over there but they occur around our cities to redirect power where it's needed.) The place was a good couple of degrees warmer than the surroundings. So I suspect it's temperature. Is the smaller tree more sheltered?

  5. No help from me. We have baby pecan trees on our property. And at our age we will never see them mature. Hazelnuts? I love Nutella! Have had that on my pantry shelves for 35 years! Hugs, Linda@Wetcreek Blog

My guess is lack of pollination. See this website.

  10. I hope you do get some that ripen. I have a large pecan tree and there are enough pecans that I share with the squirrels.

  11. I really admire people who can grow these. AND nuts cost quite a bit in the stores.

  12. I didn't even know that hazelnuts grew on bushes. I had a pecan tree at my old house and we'd have a couple of years with lots of pecans and then there would be a year of next to none. I don't know why. Since we didn't spray the tree we let the squirrels have them. In the fall they'd be running all over the place. Our neighborhood had been a pecan grove at one time, so there were quite a few pecan trees still left. I miss my pecan tree.

  19. LOL... Cute.... I don't know anything about tree nuts except that squirrels love them. But how wonderful to live in an area where you can grow them... Here's hoping the squirrels don't find them and they get to ripen... Michelle
