For certain things black and white beats colour every time for me. Just look how the grain shows up in the timer. I find also for people black and white is most effective. My eldest granddaughter often takes B&W pics of her two little girls.
I like them both for different reasons... really like the wood in those steps and spindles too!

I like the warmth of colour of the first shot but I'm a sucker for black and white. When I think of Christmas's past I always see them in black and white.
