Last week, I was craving a Grilled Cheese and Tuna on rye bread.
There's NOTHING like it!
This grilled tuna sandwich is made with rye bread, celery, onion, and mayonnaise...so easy, so simple...so delicious!
Ingredients:
- 1 can (7 ounces) tuna, drained and flaked
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 ribs celery, finely chopped (I like a lot of celery)
- mayonnaise
- salt and pepper, to taste
- Land o'Lakes American Cheese
- 8 slices rye bread (fresh from the Colchester bakery is BEST)
- soft butter
Preparation:
Mix tuna, onion, celery with enough mayonnaise to moisten and hold ingredients together. Stir in salt and pepper to taste. Spread tuna mixture on 4 slices of the rye bread. Top with remaining bread, adding Land o' Lakes American cheese and spread tops with butter. Grill in a hot skillet, buttered side down. While grilling, spread top slices (unbuttered side) of bread with butter. When bottoms are browned, turn and grill the other side.
Remember I said that there's NOTHING LIKE IT, right?
Well, considering I didn't have the rye bread from Colchester Bakery, I had to make due with what was on hand...English Muffins...toasted to perfection, rather than grilled!
Oh, one more thing. I used Thomas' English Muffins, of course, because they have all those nooks and crannies that the juice of the tuna mixture and butter can saturate!

Tuna sandwiches are among our favorites too, JP. Last week we enjoyed another favorite, grilled chase sandwiches with homemade tomato soup...perfect for a winter's eve.
This sounds great!
Oh I love the new look!
sounds good to me.
I love the idea that you're making do with the muffins. I should be so lucky!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Quiet Corner,
Had to chuckle (to myself), last week...
it was fried salmon patties and mac' n cheese cravings going on here on the Prairie!!!
Brace yourself for the upcoming storm coming your way, dear one.
"Mr. Ed" and I are praying that none of you lose electricity!!!

P.S. Visiting from Mary's Little Red House!
Mmmmm that sounds good. I love a toasted tuna salad sandwich and always make mine with the addition of sweet relish.
I enjoy tuna too. Thank you for sharing at the hop xo
Oh I never have treated myself to regular Thomas' English muffins, though I have every year purchased the cranberry ones. I'm missing out. I can tell. You've made me crave a grilled tuna sandwich on a Thomas English muffin.
Mmmm, that sounds so yummy! I've never thought to combine a tuna sandwich and a grilled cheese! Thanks for sharing at Little Red House's Thursday's Inspiration. xoxo
