The Nature of Things

Stepping out onto the deck in the pre-dawn hours and inhaling deeply, I took my usual spot after brushing the snow off the chair.  Planning on using the snow mound on the upper deck as a footrest, I carefully placed the chair close to the house and sat.  It was 3 degrees that morning with a brisk wind making it -15 according to the local news channel.

Moments later, the chatter began.  It was 6:44 and the Eagles were having quite an extensive conversation and I recorded the whole thing with my iPhone.

You see, taking the opportunity to just sit quietly, breathe and "take it all in," seemed to be just what I needed.  It's been a rather crazy year for me and now I needed to "hear myself think".  It was my turn.  In the dark, the deck became my respite.  It was time for ME and I chose to do what I find relaxing...listening to a conversation now known as "Breakfast With The Eagles".

The pair has been having regular early morning conversations throughout the month of December, and hearing them all month was a wonderful birthday gift.  Now, with January 2018 right around the corner, as I listened, I thought of the upcoming month...participating in an Eagle Presentation, National Bald Eagle Survey, followed by two other Eagle Presentations, one of which is to children under 12, which I am really looking forward to.

It was when I could no longer feel my fingertips that I went in.  I had been outside in the cold for an hour.  Yet once inside, listening to what I recorded made me forget about the burning in my fingers, nose and toes, let alone what was going through my mind.

(crank up your volume and listen carefully)

just seeing, saying, and sharing...

As much as I really don't like the cold, I was out shoveling this morning and it occured to me how refreshing it was. I was also thankful that I am able to shovel even if I don't like to.
Happy New Year

Great! I miss the cold - and because I dont live in the country anymore, I miss that kind of natural, noisy, silence.

JP. Thanks for sharing the eagles chatter. It is really lovely! I was surprised as I was expecting something more forceful I guess. I learned something new. Sylvia D.

Delightful. Peaceful in its own way. Reaffirms my faith that Nature will survive in spite of us. Good for you, getting out there despite the temperature. We like to say "There is no bad weather, only bad clothing." Thanks for sharing your 'breakfast', and here's to a happy 2018!
