Purposeful Retirement

When we lived in VA, there was a huge store not far from us that had rooms and rooms of antiques.  You could literally spend hours just browsing to get decorating and craft ideas.  Occasionally I would stop in just to wander through and see the displays once I retired and had time.

One day I found this well-worn, cast iron, woodpecker which was a door knocker.  As you can see, I brought it home, peeling paint and all and decided he was going to become a napkin holder in it's retirement.

just seeing, saying, and sharing...

I like it, the way it looks and the creative way to use and antique door knocker. would not have thought of that.

Woodpecker - Door Knocker - perfect association by the artist. And then photographically captured by another artist. Knock, knock who's there . . .

What a cute iron woodpecker. I can see why you brought it home. The antique shop sounds wonderful. Nel was just telling me about this antique shop in her town that has rows and rows of stuff, and that it was amazing, and your antique shop reminded me of that. What a cute idea to use the woodpecker as a napkin holder.
