Footprints In The Snow

Tracking 101...that's what I need.  However, the last time the class was offered, I couldn't make the date and time!  I am going to take a few classes though...I have to.

My curiosity had gotten the best of me which is why I took the pic with my boot in it.  I wanted it as a point of reference so I could show the Pres when I returned home from my walk.

His first response was, "Cat," until I retaliated with, "Look at the size of that print compared to my foot, Honey.  It can't be from a cat!!"

Because I'm very curious and wanted to know, I've been looking up all kinds of "footprints" and still haven't a clue!

Does anyone out there know their FOOTPRINTS?
(If you do, give me a lesson or two...please!)

Here's a few samples to help you along...

COYOTE vs DOG:

Plus I came across a pile of scat that definitely looked "dog-like" in size and consistency.  My conclusion....????

Hello, I could use some lessons too. I do see a lot of raccoon prints around here. Happy February, enjoy your new week!

I'm with you JP and would love to know and recognize animal tracks. Your tracks look a lot like raccoon to me and when the snow melts down it makes them look larger. I found some in our yard in December along with a line beside them in the snow. I actually posted the pics on Facebook and a neighbour up the road said a runaway dog with a tether was at their back door the night before. I'm sure that's what my mystery tracks were but never learned of the poor dog's fate.

How exciting!I look forward of hearing more from the tracking class ... Those prints are a mystery to me ... Think that such a big cat-animal has walker there before you, leaving the traces - Quite remarkable!

very cool. i love seeing how busy our yard is, it is wild how many animals do visit us often. we have to chain our garbage closed or the raccoons will get in it, silly creatures. i was all excited about your new vehicle. you had me going there. ha. ha!! thanks for the laugh. ( :

Not ever having snow we don't have footprints to wonder about which makes your life so interesting. I hope you will let us know when or if you discover what made these prints. I note the 'toes' seem forward of the main foot pad which looked a little more feline than the others. Just having a guess with no knowledge to help me.

My first thought was that they were raccoon tracks. I am no expert though. Let us know if you get a definite identification.
