Cattle Gates

A place I pass occasionally.  It is so beautiful with it's vast pastures and horses,
I actually forget it has fences!

However, the day I stopped I noticed there are several different kinds beyond the cattle gate.  When we lived in VA, the Pres put up a few cattle gates around our place.

Why?

To keep up with the neighbors of course.

We had a cattle "grate" as an outside door mat in the gravel outside the front door of our Dutch farm. And we have a cattle gate on the road that enters our property in Louisiana. As the gate has no real purpose (you can drive around it!), I guess it is for looks, too. Hugs, Linda@Wetcreek Blog

Not only do these keep the cattle in, they are good to swing back and forth on! Of course I haven't done it since my grandmother had her farm. :-)

Quite a variety of different fences in this post.

We have some of these around here. But we have more of those things they put in the ground...they look like a grate. And the cows are afraid to walk over them. They work really well, are they called Cattle Guards? I can't remember...

Hi! Thanks so much for your comment on my post this morning. So sweet!
I live in the heart of a city. Not a huge city but a city nevertheless.
I see photo's like yours and I feel this longing. I would probably miss the convinence of stores close by..but on the other hand..I would gladly trade them for the the serenity of the country side, rolling hills, etc. This late in life I am probably just as well off right where I am. How wonderful it must be though, to live in an area so beautiful.

Not sure about fences. When I moved to the city I learned of "Hate Fences" and later learned why.

Your visits are simple loved.

We of course have a variety of fences in Australia but no buildings like those you show here. They are so beautiful.
