The other day was sunny and brisk...a good day to tackle some Fall clean-up. I worked hard for several hours. It was well worth it because not only did the yard looked better but I also got to spend the day outdoors!!
I began clipping some of the spent Hostas located on the North side of the barn and the next thing I knew I taking wheel barrow after wheel barrow over to the "burn pile". Then I moved to the front yard and tackled those Hostas. Did you know that when if your let the blossoms open on your Hosta, then cut them off as close to the base as possible, your plant will spread laterally?
There are two burn piles in the yard. The thing is, I keep adding stuff to them and adding stuff to them until I can't reach the top. I drag downed branches from the woods in back of the barn and aim as best as I can, but as you can see, I sometimes make the pile wider! LOL!!!
This picture to the left has clippings, branches from all summer and fall season. Once it gets this big, then it's time for the next step. Then I wait. I wait and wait. Wait for what, you ask?? I wait for a calm day where there is no wind (which is almost unheard of down here) and one where light rain has been predicted.
Then the final step, which is sometimes the hardest to accomplish. I ask my husband to light the fire. It's not the asking him that's hard. I'm good at the asking part. It's once I've said something to him about it, there is a very, shall we call it, "long delay" or "response time"? Now that, in itself, can mean additional days or weeks...sometimes seasons!! Yep! Seasons. You see, my husband is not much of a mover; he's a procrastinator (right, Laura? LOL!!). If it's something with a motor that he can ride on, he's right there...the big commercial lawn mower, the ATV rigged with the sprayer for the fruit trees, even a chain saw. Anyway, enough about that and back tot he topic at hand...once he does light that match...
Presto!!!...All gone...:)...Happiness IS...building another pile!
